The number on your attribution dashboard is a ceiling, not a fact

Your attribution tool does not find you revenue. It tells you where revenue probably came from, with a confidence interval the salesperson leaves off the slide. You can pay four figures a month for a platform that, on a clean week, lands within a few points of free GA4. The spend is real. The extra insight often is not.

So treat every ROAS and MER figure your paid tool reports as the high end of a range. The job of analytics is to see true performance and assign credit across channels now that iOS and cookie loss have killed last-click. Four tools cover that job for a Shopify DTC brand. Everything else is a feature of one of them or a warehouse play you are not ready for.

Steal this: This week, pull your top paid channel's revenue from your attribution tool and the same channel from GA4 side by side. The gap between the two numbers is your real margin of error. Write it down before you trust either one.

The four tools you will actually evaluate

There are four names in the room: Triple Whale, Northbeam, Polar Analytics, and GA4. Pick by stage and by whether you want your AI layer to read the numbers for you.

Tool What it does Where pricing starts Best for your store AI read connector
Triple Whale First-party DTC analytics, pixel attribution, and Moby AI in one dashboard Starter near $149/mo, Advanced near $219/mo, then it climbs with your revenue band Most stores under ~$25M that want one daily-driver view Official MCP (read)
Northbeam Media-mix modeling and multi-touch attribution across many channels, including offline From around $1,000/mo, scaling to $1k-$3k+/mo by ad spend and pageviews $20M+ stores with real channel sprawl (CTV, podcast, retail, multiple paid platforms) None today
Polar Analytics Flexible custom dashboards and attribution, the configurable Triple Whale alternative Quote-based, tiered Teams that want to build their own metric views instead of living in a fixed dashboard None published
GA4 Free funnel and behavior baseline, the neutral referee Free Every store, always, alongside a DTC-native tool, never instead of one Official Google MCP (read)

Triple Whale and Northbeam both band on your numbers, so the floor above is a starting point, not your invoice. Triple Whale scales on annual revenue. Northbeam scales on ad spend and pageviews. Polar quotes you directly.

Steal this: Before you compare any two tools, write your monthly ad spend and your channel count at the top of the page. Those two numbers decide your tool faster than any feature list. Under ~$50k/mo spend or two channels, you do not have an attribution problem worth paying for yet.

Triple Whale: the default daily driver under ~$25M

For most stores below roughly $25M, this is the pick, and the reason is boring. It is the dashboard your team will actually open every morning. First-party pixel attribution, blended ROAS and MER in one view, creative-level numbers, and Moby for plain-language questions.

Two things to know before you treat its attribution as gospel. First, pixel-based attribution is a model, not a measurement. It assigns credit from a post-click and post-view window plus survey data. On a store running mostly Meta and Google it tends to be directionally right, and the more channels you add, the more it leans on assumptions you cannot see.

Second, this is where Triple Whale beats Northbeam for most operators: it ships an official read connector. Your AI layer can pull the numbers directly, so you can ask in plain language for a blended MER comparison this week versus last across Meta and Google with any creative whose ROAS dropped more than 20% flagged, and get a written read-out without anyone opening the dashboard. Northbeam cannot do that today.

Steal this: Wire the Triple Whale read connector into your AI layer and run one prompt tomorrow morning: compare blended MER this week versus last across your paid channels and flag any creative whose ROAS fell more than 20%. If you get a clean answer without opening the dashboard, you have replaced a daily manual check.
