Most CRO programs we audit have never run a single test on their search bar. The customers using it convert at 2-6x the site average. This is the operator-level playbook for fixing that.
I will start with the thing that should make you uncomfortable.
The shopper who uses your search bar is already telling you exactly what they want. They typed it. They came in with intent and went looking for the product. That is the highest-intent moment on the entire site, and it usually runs on a default Shopify search box that nobody has touched.
Here is what that intent is worth.

Now the other side of it. When search fails, the shopper does not hang around and forgive you.
So you have your most valuable visitor, telling you what they want, on the one feature most likely to fail them. And almost nobody owns it.
Only 15% of brands have anyone dedicated to search. Only 7% report learning from search data.
